As a Field Construction Boilermaker, an Apprentice is involved in much more than the construction of boilers. In fact, Apprentices typically utilize their technical skills and knowledge to perform the following tasks and duties:
Welding
Rigging
Utilize Pneumatic and Electric Hoists
Use Hand Signals to Control Crane, Hoist Operations
Change Crane Booms
Assemble, Disassemble Scaffolds & Platforms
Inspect, Care for Rigging Equipment
Burn & Gouge
Remove, Bevel, Replace & Roll Tubes
Read Blueprints
Reeve Blocks
Align, Fit Field Components
Load, Unload Materials
To become a Journeyman Boilermaker, Apprentices are required to complete 6,000-hours of on-the-job training, typically taking four years. During that time, Apprentices must satisfactorily complete self-study lessons, submit on-the-job training modules and attend classroom instruction.Apprentices will likely experience the following working conditions:
Weather Exposure – Extreme Heat, Cold
Demanding, Strenuous Work
Working at Great Heights
Traveling to different Job sites
